I’m Orazio “Oz” Sturniolo, a Brighton-based music journalist, photographer and documentary storyteller.
Originally from Italy, I grew up surrounded by music and images, fascinated by the energy of live shows and the power of visual narratives. Today I combine those passions into writing that captures the pulse of rock, alternative and post-punk scenes, while drawing on my background in photography and film to bring a cinematic perspective to words.

My journey began with photography, studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Reggio Calabria and later completing a Master’s in Digital Documentary at the University of Sussex. That training gave me the tools to frame emotions, details and atmospheres — first through the lens, and now also on the page. Writing about music is, for me, another way of telling stories: it’s about freezing a moment, translating sound into emotion, and connecting artists with audiences across borders.

From album reviews to live reports, from interviews with emerging voices to features on underground movements, I focus on the spaces where energy and narrative collide. The Brighton and London circuits — from sweaty clubs to festivals like The Great Escape — are my daily ground, but I keep an eye on European stages too, where rock and post-punk continue to evolve.

This Substack is where I share my writing, both published and personal: reviews, reflections, scene reports and translations of articles originally written in Italian. It’s a portfolio, but also a blog — a space to explore music culture, discover artists, and document the pulse of live communities.

If you’re into rock, alternative and post-punk, or simply curious about the stories behind the music, welcome. Let’s dive in together.
